The Ayathan Family: Legacy, Reform, and Lineage  **Origins and Legacy of Dr. Ayathan Gopalan** Dr. Ayathan Gopalan (1861–1948), known as "Darsarji," was a pioneering physician, social reformer, and Renaissance leader from Kerala. Born in Tellicherry (now Thalassery), he was the first son of Ayathan Chandan and became a transformative figure in Kerala’s social and educational landscape. Gopalan was instrumental in founding the Sugunavardhini Movement (1900) and the Depressed Classes Mission (1909), both of which focused on uplifting marginalized communities, promoting women's education, and eradicating caste-based discrimination and also the founder, leader and propagandist of the Brahma samaj in Kerala. Family and Heritage: Ayathan Alok was born in Calicut into the Ayathan family, an aristocratic noble family of Malabar that has played a significant role in Kerala’s history, especially in medicine, social reform, and education. He is the great-grandson of Dr. Ayathan Gopalan, who was instrumental in founding the Sugunavardhini Movement (1900), the Depressed Classes Mission (1909), and the founder, leader and propagandist of The Brahmo Samaj movement (1893) in Kerala. Ayathan Alok is the grandson of Dr. Mandhakini Bai, a doctor and social activist who worked with the Sugunavardhini Movement and Brahmo Samaj to protect women's and children's rights, and of Ayathan Devadath, who was also a Brahmo. He is the son of Ayathan Karamchand Dath and Mattangot Vijayalakshmi. Ayathan Alok is an Indian author, philanthropist, and apothecary, recognized for his contributions to literature and social initiatives. He is the founder of ACT, an organization dedicated to various charitable activities.  Alok has authored significant works focusing on notable figures from Kerala's history. His book, "Appan: ഒരു ഓർമ്മപ്പുസ്തകം", is the first authoritative biography in Malayalam about Dr. Ayathan Gopalan, a prominent renaissance leader and founder of the Sugunavardhini, Depressed Classes Mission, and Brahmo Samaj movements in Kerala.  In addition to his writing, Alok maintains an active presence on social media platforms, including Instagram and YouTube, where he shares insights and engages with the community.  Through his literary works and philanthropic efforts, Ayathan Alok continues to contribute to the preservation and promotion of Kerala's rich cultural and historical heritage.
