This period, often termed the Kerala Renaissance, was characterized by a fundamental challenge to the prevailing feudal hierarchies and the introduction of rationalist, egalitarian frameworks that sought to dismantle the rigid caste system and patriarchal norms. Within this context, the Ayathan family of Malabar stands as a central, yet often under-documented, pillar of reform.
